What is FastForward?

An innovative program launched in 2016 as the “New Economy Workforce Credential Grant Program” (WCG) after approval by the General Assembly of Virginia, now known as FastForward. This program was established for the purpose of:

How FastForward Works

Courses offered under this program are designed to be completed on a short-term basis (weeks or months as opposed to years of study). Students in FastForward program also benefit from significant cost reductions. Subject to the availability of funds, students pay only one-third of the normal cost of training. Pending availability of state funds, students can use FANTIC funds (see below) to help cover the first one-third if necessary.

Student Expectations

  • Pay 1/3 of the tuition up front
  • Attend and participate in all classes
  • Pass certification requirements/testing
  • Provide a copy of the earned credential to NRCC Workforce Development
  • Sample WCG Release Form

Approved WCG Programs

  • CDL – Class A
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Manufacturing Technician (MT1)
  • Medical Assistant
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt

Financial Aid for Non-credit Training leading to Industry Credentials (FANTIC) provides funding for students demonstrating financial need who desire to enroll in an approved WCG training program leading to the attainment of an industry-recognized credential or licensure and are not eligible for other funding grants or financial assistance.

Attention journeymen, master plumbers, electricians, HVAC mechanics and gas fitters - you know you need continuing education in your profession as part of the licensing process, but did you know you can fulfill that requirement at NRCC?

NRCC offers Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation and Board of Contractors approved renewal courses online.

The Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (MOS) offers job seekers a real-world, recognizable credential that demonstrates they have the skills and expertise businesses depend on. The MOS certification is composed of eight separate exams that assess a user’s skill level with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, OneNote, SharePoint 2010 and Office 365.

Users can choose to take the exam for each program or just the programs in which they wish to be MOS certified. Expert level tests and a “master” level MOS certification are also available.
