NRCC Workforce Development Community Interest Classes -- Spring 2013

NON-CREDIT CLASSES

PREPARATION FOR SAT (SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST) (TEST 1101-C1)CLASS # 69940Saturdays, January 19 - February 239:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Godbey Hall, Room 160Instructors: Suzanne Steele and Meredith JonesTuition: $102, plus $45 for textbooks (textbook fees payable at first class meeting)

This course will prepare students for the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Topics on the test will be explained and reviewed. Drills on math problems and verbal topics will be emphasized. Helpful hints, tips and short cuts will be provided to help the student cover all SAT material more quickly. Students should bring a graphing calculator to class.

ZUMBA FITNESS (RECR 1102-CA)CLASS # 65691 Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 17 - March 286:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.Location: Critzer Elementary School, PulaskiInstructor: Charlene KidderTuition: $50

This beginner/intermediate class features exotic rhythms set to high-energy, international beats. Combine this with Zumba Toning sticks and you've got a high-cardio, body-sculpting workout. Designed for anyone at any fitness level, you can burn 500-800 calories in one hour.

The six hour lecture is required with optional range time held on the Saturday following the classes. The class is intended for persons who are applying for a handgun permit through the courts. Students will learn the nomenclature of revolvers and/or semi automatic handguns. They will also learn how to care for, maintain and properly store their handguns.

Beginner students will learn foxtrot, swing, and waltz. The intermediate students will learn foxtrot, rhumba and salsa.

For teachers seeking to integrate Smart Notebook 11 into daily instruction; explore software that motivates and involves students to increase learning. Projects in this class will be enhanced lessons to fit teachers' course content and are aligned with the Virginia SOL's. This class is intended for the intermediate technology user. Class attendance is mandatory.

Presents the fundamental principles of flight including theory of flight, aircraft standards and specifications, basic aircraft construction, weight and balance, navigation, meteorology, principles of radio communication and application of aero physics.
