New River Community College will offer several popular community interest classes beginning in September including Zumba fitness, cake decorating, concealed carry/handgun safety, and ballroom dance.

This beginner/intermediate class features rhythms set to high-energy and international beats. Combine this with Zumba Toning sticks and you've got a high cardio, body-sculpting workout. The class is designed for anyone at any fitness level.

Conquer the art of cake decorating through instruction and hands-on experience. Develop the skills you need to create cakes and learn to make a variety of borders and flowers. Learn to do special techniques such as basket-weaving, lattice work, drop strings and figure piping. Participants will also create a character cake, cut-up cake, transfer cake and tiered cake. Supplies will need to be purchased.

The six hour lecture is required with optional range time held on the Saturday following the classes. The class is intended for persons who are applying for a handgun permit through the courts. Students will learn the nomenclature of revolvers and/or semi automatic handguns. They will also learn how to care for, maintain and properly store their handguns.
