NRCC community interest classes beginning in January

New River Community College will kick off the New Year with a variety community interest classes. From Zumba fitness to private pilot ground school, the NRCC Office of Workforce Development has several credit and non-credit courses to choose from.

Non-Credit Courses:

ZUMBA FITNESS, CLASS # 60750(RECR 1102-CA)Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 17 through March 276:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.Location: Critzer Elementary School, PulaskiInstructor: Charlene KidderTuition: $50

You don't have to know how to dance, just move your body and follow the lead and you will see how fitness can be fun. Class starts at a beginning level and contains the steps of reggaeton, salsa, meringue, hip-hop and samba. Tennis shoes required.

BALLROOM DANCE, CLASS # 58183(LLRN 1101-C1)Fridays, January 20 through March 23 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.Location: NRCC Student Lounge, Martin HallInstructors: Naomi King and Hugh Webb Tuition: $44 per person (couples only)

Beginners will learn foxtrot, swing and waltz. The intermediate class will learn the east coast swing using the triple step, night club two step and polka.

PREPARATION FOR SAT (SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST), CLASS # 59602(TEST 1101-C1)Saturdays, January 14 through February 189:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Location: NRCC Godbey Hall, Room 160Instructors: Meredith Jones and Suzanne SteeleTuition: $98, plus $45 for textbooks (textbook fees payable at first class meeting)

This course will prepare students for the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Topics on the test will be explained and reviewed. Drills on math problems and verbal topics will be emphasized. Helpful hints, tips and short cuts will be provided to help the student cover all SAT material more quickly. Students should bring a graphing calculator to class.

Presents the fundamental principles of flight including theory of flight, aircraft standards and specifications, basic aircraft construction, weight and balance, navigation, meteorology, principles of radio communication and application of aero physics. Prepares students for the FAA examination for private pilot rating. PRINCIPLES OF REAL ESTATE, CLASS # 32676, 4 Credits (REA 100-CA)Thursdays, January 26 through May 36:00 - 10:00 p.m.Location: NRCC New River Valley Mall Site, Room 205Instructor: Cline HallTuition: $484.20

This is the prep course to sit for Real Estate Certification. The course examines practical applications of real estate principles. Includes a study of titles, estates, land descriptions, contracts, legal instruments and concepts, real estate mathematics, financing, agency, appraisal, fair housing, and management of real estate.

REAL ESTATE APPRAISAL, CLASS # 35740, 3 Credits(REA 216-CA)Wednesdays, January 25 through May 26:00 - 9:00 p.m.Location: NRCC New River Valley Mall Site, Room 205Instructor: Cline HallTuition: $363.15

Explores fundamentals of real estate valuation. Introduces the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice and the Uniform Residential Appraisal Report formulations, working problems and reviewing actual appraisals. Includes the opportunities available in the appraisal field.
