New River Community College will offer four one-day computer workshops during February. The workshops are: Introduction to PCs, Windows, Beginning Word and Intermediate Word.
Introduction to PCs (DATA 1105-C1) will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 6. The course is primarily for home computer users with little or no experience. The focus is on learning basic concepts and essential skills.
Windows (DATA 1156-C1) will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 13. Students will learn how to use the Windows environment and how to most efficiently use utility programs and file management. This course is for students who have basic knowledge of the PC and who are proficient in using the mouse.
Beginning Word (DATA 1175-C1) will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 20. The course is for students who are familiar with Windows and basic computer functions. The focus is on learning basic word processing concepts, such as editing, moving, copying and formatting text.
Intermediate Word (DATA 1152-C1) will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 27. Students will learn to create professional quality documents by learning to use headers and footers, Auto Text entries, and graphics. Formatting and performing calculations in tables will also be taught.
The computer workshops will be held in Edwards Hall, room 238, at the college's main campus in Dublin. Tuition is $65 per course, which includes the textbook. Certificates will be provided and .55 continuing education units (CEUs) will be awarded upon completion of the course.
