NRCC announces open position: Dean of Instructional Services and Innovation

Position Overview:
New River Community College is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as the Dean of Instructional Services and Innovation. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing and enhancing instructional services and innovation that contribute to teaching, learning, and student success. The following are included in the Instructional Services and Innovation unit: NRCC Online, the testing centers, Shared Services Distance Learning, the library, Christiansburg site daily management, the Academic Success Center, program review and assessment, instructional design, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Professional Development, and the Word Processing Center.
Required Qualifications:
- A master’s degree.
- Superb people skills.
- Commitment to the community college mission.
- Proven track record of leadership and management in an academic setting.
- Experience recruiting, selecting, evaluating, mentoring, and supervising personnel.
- The ability to lead and manage the following units of Instructional Services and Innovation: NRCC Online, the testing centers, Shared Services Distance Learning, the library, Christiansburg site daily management, the Academic Success Center, program review and assessment, instructional design, the Center for Teaching Learning and Professional Development, and the Word Processing Center.
- Knowledge of course development and curriculum design.
- Knowledge of strategic planning and budgeting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain positive internal and external relationships with the college community.
- Energetic leadership with high ethical standards and a commitment to excellence and integrity.

Additional factors that may be considered in applicant review:
- A doctoral degree.
- Successful postsecondary teaching and/or postsecondary administrative experience.
- Experience in program review and assessment.
- Experience in creating and delivering professional development training.
Duties:
The position will report to the Vice President for Instruction and Student Services with responsibility for leading and managing the Instructional Services and Innovation unit. Primary duties will include:
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Instructional Services and Innovation unit.
- Lead, manage, and mentor instructional services and innovation staff.
- Lead, develop and implement programs and initiatives that increase student success.
- Provide leadership and management regarding innovation, responding to the current trends and practices.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to improve instructional outcomes.
- Lead the following instructional services and innovation units that support teaching, learning, and student success: NRCC Online, the testing centers, Shared Services Distance Learning, the library, Christiansburg site daily management, the Academic Success Center, program review and assessment, instructional design, the Center for Teaching Learning and Professional Development, and the Word Processing Center.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of instructional support and innovation programs and make necessary improvements.
- Manage budget and resource allocation for the instructional services and innovation unit.
- Support the college’s mission to “give everyone the opportunity to learn and develop the right skills so lives and communities are strengthened.”
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Salary: Dependent on academic qualifications and previous work experience.
