Elizabeth Hodges, NRCC Class of 2023

Elizabeth knew she wanted to attend college but narrowing down her interests proved to be a challenge.  After being encouraged by teachers, family, and friends to consider NRCC, she used the ACCE scholarship to attend NRCC right after high school. She found that NRCC offered a wide variety of courses that would allow her to find her true goals.

“I am very thankful for the financial assistance ACCE provided for me. I was able to focus more on my academics rather than worrying about my tuition bills. Furthermore, I was able to volunteer at the animal shelter, which was very fulfilling for me. It really solidified my love and appreciation for animals. I remember leaving every day thinking ‘I would love to work with animals for the rest of my life’.”

While studying at NRCC, Elizabeth joined the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society and remained on the President’s list every semester she attended. Elizabeth will transfer to Virginia Tech in the fall and plans to major in animal and poultry sciences and eventually study veterinary medicine.

Elizabeth found NRCC to be a place where she could find both success and individual assistance if she needed it. She credits Instructor Judy Mann and Advisor John Bowler with helping her meet her educational goals through NRCC.

“Judy Mann is a wonderful professor, but she is an even better human being. She always pushed me to my full potential in English…She wants to see all of her students find their place in life where they can find happiness and fulfillment. John Bowler was another individual who really helped me. The first time I met him, I walked into his office seeking a last-minute academic change. He had no issue helping me get on the right track for success. I am thankful for the confidence and reassurance he placed in me.”
