Technician and Laboratory Equipment Specialist (part-time)

Qualifications Required:

Education: A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant technical field such as engineering technology or metrology.

Experience: Previous experience in calibration, metrology, or lab equipment maintenance.

Technical Skills: Proficiency with precision instruments, understanding of calibration principles and measurement uncertainty, the ability to interpret technical documents, and familiarity with calibration software.

Soft Skills: Problem-solving capabilities, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

Duties:

Calibration & Testing: Perform and/or coordinate internal and external calibration, testing, and adjustment of a wide range of measuring instruments (e.g., balances, pressure gauges, temperature sensors, etc.) to ensure accuracy and compliance with established standards.

Maintenance & Repair: Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on equipment to minimize downtime. Report issues to the academic division.

Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all calibration dates, results, maintenance performed, and repair history in a calibration management database. Ensure all activities adhere to relevant quality and safety standards (e.g., ISO, FDA, OSHA).

Technical Support & Training: Provide technical support and training to lab personnel on the proper use and basic maintenance of equipment. Act as a subject matter expert for equipment-related inquiries.

Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements in calibration and maintenance procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Inventory Control: Manage and monitor inventory of equipment, spare parts, and calibration standards, ensuring adequate stock levels. Provide lifecycle recommendations for aging equipment and components.
