A basic rider motorcycle course is being offered during the week at New River Community College in Dublin next month. The Basic Rider Course (BRC) will be held May 16 through 18. The session will begin on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and continue on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The course includes classroom instruction and on-motorcycle instruction under controlled range conditions. Riders will learn the basic skills of motorcycle operation, effective braking, obstacle avoidance and safe riding strategies. Tuition is $148.80 for Virginia residents.
Completion of the BRC prepares riders for state licensing with an exemption in the skills portion of the DMV test and may qualify for discounts with some motor vehicle insurance companies. The program provides motorcycles (no larger than 500cc), helmets and textbooks for each rider.
