Applications accepted through May 31, 2012, for scholarships in
Fall 2012 and Spring 2013
ELIGIBILITY FOR SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION
The NRCC Educational Foundation awards scholarships (generally in the amount of $1,000 per academic year) to qualified
persons for attendance at New River Community College. These awards are based on criteria such as financial need and
scholastic achievement.
Applicants of all ages may be considered for NRCC Educational Foundation Scholarships.
Both continuing NRCC students and persons planning to become NRCC students may apply.
The following guidelines apply unless otherwise specified.
- Applicant must be a citizen of Virginia living in Giles, Floyd, Pulaski or Montgomery County or Radford. Note: A
few scholarships are available to applicants who are not residents of this area. International students who are in
the United States on a student visa are not eligible for this program.
- Applicant must enroll in a program of study or declare a major at New River Community College.
- Applicant must furnish fully completed application and two letters of recommendation from non-family members.
(It is preferred that one letter be from an educator or former employer.)
- Applicant must furnish copies of high school and/or college transcripts.
- Once enrolled at NRCC, scholarship recipients must maintain a class load of 9 credit hours or more, unless
otherwise specified.
- Once enrolled, scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (a B average)
unless otherwise specified. A 3.0 average is not a requirement to be considered for an initial scholarship award.
- Recipients must agree to attend the college’s annual scholarship brunch, to be held in October,
write a thank-you letter to a donor or donors, and to attend the scholarship orientation.
- Scholarship recipients may be considered for a second year of support if all requirements are met.

- Application is to be completed by the applicant, not a parent or other third party.
- Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted through Thursday, May 31, 2012 for scholarships supporting studies
during the 2012-2013 academic year.
