The New River Community College Office of Transitional Programs will offer two PluggedInVA certificate programs beginning August 5 - one medical coding and one in welding.
Those in the medical coding program will gain the knowledge and skills needed to take medical coding examinations while earning 27 college credits.
Those in the welding program will train to become entry-level welders and will earn 16 college credits.
Throughout each two-semester program, students will work with NRCC's Transitional Program staff to gain assistance with creating a resume, preparing for a job interview and other professional skills. Participants will also take the ACT WorkKeys tests for Virginia's Career Readiness Certificates.
At the conclusion of each program, students will have the opportunity to meet with industry representatives about employment opportunities. Potential students must be 18 years of age or older, be in good physical health, be able to pass a drug test and have reliable transportation (and child care, if applicable). Financial assistance is available for qualified applicants.
Registration for both programs begins June 15. More information is available by contacting the NRCC Office of Transitional Programs at 540-674-3682 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
