A film and literature course and an acting course will be offered at New River Community during the fall 2014 semester, which begins in August.
"Film and Literature" (ENG 276) is a new course that will acquaint students with basic concepts of literary and film analysis through the study of literature and film as related forms of art and cultural expression. Course topics will include elements of literary and film style, issues in adapting literary works for film, and cultural contexts for literature and film. This course will be offered at NRCC's New River Valley Mall site in Christiansburg.
"Acting I" (CST 131) will be offered on the NRCC campus in Dublin and will help students develop personal resources and explore performance skills through such activities as theater games, role playing, improvisation, work on basic script units and performance of scenes.
Both courses will be instructed by NRCC adjunct instructor, Dr. Rusty Whitener of Pulaski.
Whitener is a published author and screenwriter who has received several awards for his work. He is also an actor and has played lead and supporting roles in feature films and in theatrical productions.
