Registration for the spring 2014 semester at New River Community College will begin earlier than usual this year on Tuesday, November 12. Spring classes begin on Thursday, January 23. Among the college's more than 650 course offerings for the spring semester are new courses in building automation and energy management systems and advanced creative writing. Additionally, NRCC will begin offering its "Writing for Business" course online.

Building Automation and Energy Management will explore how building systems (HVAC, lighting, security, and alternative energy) can communicate through a network of "intelligent" control devices and emphasizes how these controlling devices work together in common automation.

Advanced Creative Writing will be offered as part of NRCC's Advanced Learners Program offerings this spring. Students can expect to write several works including poetry, short stories, non-fiction essays and plays. They will also learn about the process of submitting written work for publication and submit some of their own pieces.

Writing for Business will help students develop their business writing abilities through extensive practice in composing business correspondence and other documents. Students will explore elements such as voice, tone, style, formatting editing and graphics.

The complete spring class schedule is available at Current NRCC students may register for classes online by visiting their student accounts.
