New River Community College will offer a course in Smart Board Technology Integration for classroom teachers beginning in June at the Montgomery County Technology Center at 1180 North Franklin Street in Christiansburg. Lynn Yates and Matthew McDaniel will instruct the course.
Class meeting dates are June 17 and 18 from 5 to 8 p.m., July 1 and 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. and July 15 and 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additionally, 21 hours of online coursework is required.
This course is for teachers seeking to integrate Smart Notebook into daily instruction. Participants will explore software that motivates and involves students to increase learning. Projects in this class will be enhanced lessons to fit teachers' course content. Class attendance is mandatory and course objectives are aligned with the Virginia SOLs. Participants will have the opportunity to apply video, animation, audio and student response features, locate and use online resources to create lessons, link to websites and create lessons to share with others. Other major course topics include a discussion of the interactive white board ("Smartboard") and learning to use YouTube and Discovery Streaming to obtain educational videos.
