New River Valley WorkKeys(R) Week will be hosted by New River Community College's Office of Workforce Development June 3 through 6.

During the week, the college will offer free Career Readiness Certificate assessments. Virginia's Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) is a credential used by employers to verify the skills of potential employees and assess their potential for placement, retention and advancement.

The certificate is achieved by successfully completing the ACT WorkKeys comprehensive skills tests in three core areas: reading for information, applied math and locating information. An individual can earn one of three levels of CRC - bronze, silver, or gold.

A bronze level signifies that the individual possesses skills for approximately 30% of the jobs profiled by WorkKeys in these three specific skill areas. A silver level signifies that the individual possesses skills for 65% of jobs profiles and a gold level signifies that the individual possesses skills for 85%. The assessments will be offered June 3 through 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day.

Check-in will begin at 9:15 a.m. in Edwards Hall room 117 at NRCC in Dublin. The college has funds to offer 350 free CRC assessments.

To participate in one of the free testing sessions, individuals must pre-register by visiting www.nr.edu/workforce and clicking on the "New River Valley WorkKeys Week" link. All participants must bring a state-issued photo ID and a four-function, scientific or graphing calculator. Cell phones will not be allowed inside the testing room.

More information about the free CRC assessments is available by contacting Patty Ryan in the NRCC Office of Workforce Development at pryan@nr.edu .
