A series of three workshops designed to assist local businesses and restaurants with productivity, growth and marketing will be offered by New River Community College (NRCC) in April and May. "Customizing Marketing Materials," "Are You LinkedIn? A Business Guide" and "Cost Analysis and Pricing for Restaurants" will be held at NRCC's New River Valley Mall site in Christiansburg.
Each workshop will be offered in a computer lab setting, offering participants a thorough, hands-on learning experience.
"Customizing Marketing Materials" will take place on Tuesday, April 24, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Participants will learn how to create their own customized marketing materials for their businesses including letters, envelopes, flyers and post cards. Other workshop topics include developing a contact database, creating birthday or "loyal customer" postcards and creating customized print and e-mail newsletters.
"Are You LinkedIn? A Business Guide" will be held on Wednesday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn how to get connected and market their businesses and themselves on the professional networking website, LinkedIn. Workshop objectives include creating a LinkedIn profile, understanding what to include on business pages and adding and managing connections.
The "Cost Analysis and Pricing for Restaurants" workshop will take place on Tuesday, May 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. and will focus on accurately pricing appetizers, entrees and desserts and overall restaurant cost-reduction strategies. Other subjects covered will include how to determine which menu items generate the most revenue and using spreadsheets to analyze and determine pricing.
Dr. Jeanne Symanoskie, a corporate trainer for NRCC, will be the instructor for each workshop. Symanoskie's background includes 10 years experience teaching in various settings including the Fairfax County Public Schools, Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland and the University of Georgia. She also owned and operated the Blacksburg area restaurant Log Cabin BBQ for three years.
The fee for each workshop is $25. However, individuals who register for any of the workshops by Wednesday, April 18, will receive a discount and may enroll for only $18.
