GED preparation and career and computer preparation classes are in session in three Floyd County locations. Computer lab and tutoring sessions are also available. Classes are held at the Floyd Learning Center (403 Locust Street) and Willis Elementary School (5075 Floyd Highway South). Students may enter the sessions any time throughout the semester. The GED prep classes will cover math, social studies, science and language arts (reading and writing) topics necessary to prepare students to take the official GED test.
Career and computer preparation classes help students gain basic computer skills, learn how to prepare a resume and perform job searches in order to become better prepared for employment. The computer lab and tutoring sessions are available for individuals who need access to the Internet to complete GED preparation assignments, work on preparing resumes and prepare for employment.
Class schedules are: GED PreparationFloyd Learning Center: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 5:30 to 8 p.m., through May 17.
Willis Elementary School: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 to 8 p.m., through May 17.
Career and Computer Preparation Floyd Learning Center: Thursdays, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., through May 17.
Computer Lab and TutoringFloyd Learning Center: Mondays, 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., through May 15.
NRCC is also an Official GED Testing Center and has multiple testing dates available in March, April, May and June at the campus in Dublin and the college's site inside the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg. In 2011, over 200 individuals chose New River Community College's GED testing services on their pathway to earning a GED diploma.
