Two new English classes have been added for the fall 2011 semester at New River Community College. Women in Literature will be offered at the college's New River Valley mall site in Christiansburg and Modern Drama will be offered as an online course.
Women in Literature will cover issues including paradigms of motherhood and the feminine, the development of girls into women, and the ways in which women and girls are perceived, constrained, and celebrated by their communities. The course will include both poetry and prose text, audio visuals, writing assignments and class discussions.
Modern Drama seeks to expand the student's knowledge of modern dramatic literature, its development and its influence on contemporary theater and film. Students will have the opportunity to compose essays including their personal insights into what constitutes modern drama in theme, structure, language and setting.
Fall class registration is going on now and classes begin Monday, August 22. To see the fall semester class schedule, visit www.nr.edu/schedule .
