1. Tuition: Save on tuition and fees by getting an associate degree at one of Virginia’s 23 community colleges before transferring to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Average yearly tuition and fees at community colleges are about 1/3 the cost of Virginia’s public four-year universities.
2. Room and Board: Community college students who live at home and avoid the cost of on-campus room and board save about $10,000 per year.
3. Guaranteed Admission Program: Students who first earn an associate degree at Virginia’s Community Colleges and meet GPA and other requirements, are guaranteed admission to more than 30 public and private four-year colleges and universities in Virginia.
4. Transfer Grant Fund: Qualifying students who complete an associate degree at a Virginia two-year community college and then transfer to a participating Virginia four-year university may receive a grant fund of up to $3,000 annually.
5. Fewer Loans: Because Virginia’s Community Colleges are so affordable, 86% of students do not need loans to cover tuition.
