New River Community College will offer a handgun safety course next week and another course in October.
The first course will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and Thursday, Sept. 21 at NRCC in Dublin (#5667).
The October course will be held at the NRV Mall site in Christiansburg on Tuesday, Oct. 17, and Thursday, Oct. 19 (#5668).
The class meetings will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Range time will be offered on the Saturday following the class.
The cost of the course is $60.
The six-hour classroom portion of the course, instructed by Joey Williams, is required. However, range time is optional. The class is intended for individuals who are applying for a handgun permit through the courts, and will cover topics such as the nomenclature of revolvers and/or semi-automatic handguns and safety issues related to handgun ownership. Participants will also learn how to care for, maintain and store their handguns.
