News story imageThe music of Valley Bluegrass and Larry Sigmon & Martha Spencer will be featured during New River Community College's Fiddle, Banjo and Dance Club jamboree on Saturday, Dec. 10. The music will begin at 6 p.m. in Edwards Hall, room 117, at NRCC in Dublin.

Valley Bluegrass is a group from West Virginia featuring Larry Cox on guitar and vocals, Eddie Cales on dobro; Butch Bailey, bass and vocals; Frank Horn, banjo and vocals and Paul Morrison, guitar and vocals. Cox started the band in 2005 with his wife, Loretta, who does sound work and marketing for the group. Most of the group's members come from long family traditions of bluegrass music, with several having played for 20 years or more.

Larry Sigmon started playing music at a young age and developed a signature hard-driving rhythmic style. For 18 years, Sigmon performed with Barbara Poole at festivals, dances and other concert venues, and won countless ribbons in banjo, bass and folk song competitions. Martha Spencer is a longtime member of the family group, Whitetop Mountain Band. Spencer began singing and dancing at an early age. Sigmon and Spencer have been working together since 2013 and have performed at the Ferrum Folklife Festival and the Carter Fold.

Corporate sponsors of the jamborees include Anderson Audiology, Dublin; Duncan Ford Lincoln Mazda, Blacksburg; Estes Auto & Truck Parts Inc., Pilot; First Community Bank, Pulaski; Gregory Seeding and Landscaping Company, Pulaski; Hitching Post Records, Hiwassee; King's Tire Service, Pulaski; Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., Dublin; Pulaski Patriot newspaper, Pulaski; Shoney's Restaurant, Dublin; Southern Furniture Warehouse, Radford; Sunshine Tours, Dublin; Trader's Emporium and Jewelry Services, Dublin; UAW Veterans Local 2069 and Wade's Supermarket.
