Students with disabilities attending New River Community College are realizing their dreams by learning to be successful using the various accommodations offered by the LEAP office. Our program includes students with vision loss and some with traumatic brain injuries.

The Leap center's emphasis on providing individual attention promotes the development of self-confidence, motivation and achievement.  The Center concentrates on individual learning styles and academic strategies to enhance student success.

The comprehensive center has provided academic and personal support services to learning disabled students since 1984. Students with learning disabilities are those whose abilities qualify them for post secondary education but whose learning disabilities hinder their chances for success.

The LEAP center strives to increase students' opportunities for transition from high school to college and, once enrolled, to meet the various special needs of those students.

During its first year the center served 24 students.  To date, the center has served over 900 students with learning disabilities.  As one of only two comprehensive programs in Virginia, the center attracts students from other regions of the Commonwealth and from many other states throughout the country.
