Registration open for NRCC's new pharmacy technician program

Registration is still open for New River Community College's new pharmacy technician training program.

One session will meet beginning Nov. 1, to run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 15.

The second session will meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 6 to 9 p.m., from Nov. 8 through Jan. 19.

The course teaches pharmacy technician students information, techniques and procedures needed to assist the pharmacist in delivery of pharmaceutical products and services. The main objective is to provide the students with a working knowledge of most aspects of pharmacy in community and institutional practice settings. Progressive learning takes place as new information and skill sets are studied throughout the course. Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician in Virginia and be prepared to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.

Brenton Langston is the instructor for this program. He is licensed by the Virginia Department of Health Professions CPhT (National Licensure) and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

Financial assistance is available to those who qualify through Virginia's New Economy Workforce Credential Grant (WCG) program.
