NRCC to offer motorcycle safety courses in September and October

Six weekend motorcycle safety courses will be held at New River Community College in September and October.

The Basic Rider Course (BRC) sessions begin on Friday evening, meeting from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday hours are from 7 a.m. to noon.

BRC classes will be offered the weekends of September 12 and 19 and October 3, 10, 17 and 24. All classes are held at NRCC in Dublin.

The one-credit basic rider course includes classroom instruction and on-motorcycle training under controlled range conditions for riders age 16 and up. Riders will learn the basic skills of motorcycle operation, effective braking and obstacle avoidance as well as safe riding strategies. Riders will be taught skills normally learned only after several years of trial and error riding. No prior knowledge of motorcycling is required to enroll in this course.

Completion of the basic rider course prepares riders for state licensing with an exemption in the skills portion of the DMV test and may qualify them for discounts with some motor vehicle insurance companies.

The BRC program provides motorcycles (no larger than 500 cc), helmets and textbooks for each rider. In-state tuition for the course is $138.55 and out-of-state tuition is $333.15.
