NRCC to offer computer skills ‘boot camp’
|New River Community College will offer a “boot camp” series of computer skills workshops beginning May 22. Workshops will include basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Each workshop will be offered twice and both sessions will be held at NRCC in Dublin.
“Making the Most of Your Computer: Introduction” will be offered on Thursday, May 22, or on Monday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to noon. This workshop will help participants become more comfortable with the operating system environment, learn to manage files, navigate the internet and download files and images. Essential computing components, terminology, using the internet, tips and tricks for email and how to save and send files will also be discussed. The cost is $10.
“Microsoft Word Boot Camp” will be held on Tuesday, June 17, or Monday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to noon. This workshop will guide participants through opening, editing and saving documents and templates, performing editing tasks such as copy and paste, and performing basic formatting functions. The cost for this workshop is $29.95.
“Microsoft Excel Boot Camp” will be held on Wednesday, June 18, or Friday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to noon. Today, spreadsheets are crucial for business and home users. This workshop will discuss key elements including creating, editing and saving worksheets and workbooks, entering labels and values, formatting text and data and using basic Excel functions. The cost for this workshop is $29.95.
“Microsoft PowerPoint Boot Camp” will be held on Thursday, June 19, or Wednesday, August 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants in this workshop will discover ways to make Microsoft’s popular presentation software work for them. This workshop will discuss opening, closing and saving presentations, creating a basic presentation slide show, using formatting options and text enhancements and using themes, transitions and animations. The cost for this workshop is $29.95.
