NRCC Industrial Maintenance program offered for adult learners

The NRCC Office of Transitional Programs is offering a PluggedInVA program which begins January 9 and leads to a certificate in Industrial Maintenance. Students in the program will receive additional training in areas such as math, reading and professional soft skills and will also explore basic computer skills and prepare for placement tests in math and English.

In the industrial maintenance courses, students will learn the key elements of mechanical and electrical service and repair necessary to gain employment in an industrial service or repair shop. They will also study industrial safety to earn an OSHA 30 card.

Additionally, throughout the two-semester program, students will work with NRCC’s Transitional Program staff to gain assistance with creating a resume, preparing for a job interview and other professional skills.

Participants will also take the ACT WorkKeys tests for Virginia’s Career Readiness Certificates. At the conclusion of the program, students will have the opportunity to meet with industry representatives about employment opportunities.

Potential students must be 18 years of age or older, possess fine motor skills, be physically fit and pass a drug test. Financial assistance is available for qualified applicants.
Support comes from the Virginia Department of Education Office of Adult Education and Literacy and PluggedInVA, a Career Pathways program for adult learners.

Those interested in learning more about the program are invited to attend an information session to be held on Tuesday, December 17, at 10 a.m. in the T. J. Anderson Student Lounge located in Martin Hall on NRCC’s campus in Dublin.
