The Country Boys and the Friday Night Dance Band to perform at NRCC in November

The Country Boys and the Friday Night Dance Band will perform at New River Community Collegeís Fiddle, Banjo and Dance Club jamboree season on Saturday, November 9. The show will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Edwards Hall at NRCC in Dublin.

The Country Boys have been playing traditional bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music throughout North Carolina and Virginia for over 40 years. The present band is made up of Johnny Joyce, Tim Bowman, J. A. Midkiff, Kevin Easter, Doug Joyce and Donald Clifton. Joyce joined the band in 1973 as the tenor singer and guitarist. Midkiff followed in 1984 as the fiddle player. In 1987, Bowman began as the banjo player and Easter became the mandolin player in 2003. Clifton, the youngest member, came on board in 2012. The band cites the Country Gentleman and the Osborne Brothers as some of their musical influences.

The Friday Night Dance Band is an old-time band from Callaway, Va. Over the years, the band has played at many different venues including jam sessions at Cannadayís Store in Boones Mill and the Floyd Country Store in Floyd and regular fundraising shows at the Floyd Fire Department. The band also received a commendation from the Virginia General Assembly for their contributions to the community of Redwood and town of Rocky Mount, where they played for benefit dances. Current band members include Dolly Maxey on guitar and vocals, Stan Rowe on bass and vocals, Ron Padgett on banjo, guitar, keyboard, fiddle and vocals and Steve Carper on fiddle and banjo.

The doors open at 5 p.m. for the show. There is no charge for admission; however, donations will be accepted to help pay travel expenses for the musicians. The jamborees are held the second Saturday of each month through April at NRCC, a Crooked Road affiliated venue.
