NRCC to offer one-day computer workshops

New River Community College will offer several one-day workshops on Microsoft Office computer programs in February and March.

Upcoming classes include: “Intro to PCs,” “Windows,” “Beginning Word,” “Intermediate Word,” “Advanced Word,” “Beginning Excel” and “Intermediate Excel.”

“Intro to PCs” (ITEC 1101-C1) is for home users of the PC and will guide those who have little or no experience with computers through very basic concepts and essential skills. “Windows” (ITEC 1102-C1) is designed for students with some knowledge of the PC and focuses on the functions the Windows 7 operating system performs and how those functions affect other applications.

“Beginning Word” (ITEC 1103-C1) introduces students to general word processing concepts and topics including editing, moving/copying text, formatting characters and paragraphs, and controlling page layout. In “Intermediate Word” (ITEC 1104-C1) participants will learn to create professional quality documents using columns, headers, footers, AutoText entries and graphics. Formatting and calculations in tables will also be discussed. “Advanced Word” (ITEC 1105-C1) adds instruction in creating form letters and addressing envelopes, working with forms, managing large documents and automating actions with macros.

“Beginning Excel” (ITEC 1106-C1) introduces participants to the essential concepts and skills involved in creating spreadsheets. Students will see examples of Excel spreadsheets and learn to add text and numeric data, perform calculations, modify and format a worksheet, print and save. “Intermediate Excel” (ITEC 1107-C1) builds on basic spreadsheet skills to incorporate working with multiple worksheets as well as modifying charts, performing advanced formatting techniques and creating and sorting lists.

Each course will meet from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Edwards Hall room 238 at NRCC in Dublin and Linda Lester will be the instructor. Tuition is $109 per course, which includes a textbook. Students will receive a certificate and a .55 CEU upon completion.
