NRCC to hold “Sharper Skills Seminars” for Business
10/5/2012
| October and November will bring a series of seminars to New River Community College designed to enhance crucial workplace skills. NRCC’s Sharper Skills Seminars series includes eight different workshops designed and instructed by the college’s corporate trainers, Laurel Schirr and Jeanne Symanoskie. Schirr will lead seminars in customer service, sales skills, and time management. Her “Customer Service” seminar focuses on teaching the importance of great customer service, how attitude affects customer service, how to effectively identify customer needs and how to deal with difficult customers. In “Improve Your Sales Skills,” Schirr helps participants learn to become more effective sales professionals by making a good first impression, establishing credibility and confidence, effectively handling objections and active listening. “Time Management” focuses on how to best assign priorities to daily workplace activities, overcome procrastination, delegate effectively, hold better meetings and work with digital time-saving apps. Symanoskie’s technology-oriented seminars include “Claiming Your Business ID,” “Creating Pivot Tables in Excel,” “Managing Your Online Identity,” “Creating and Managing Online Surveys,” and “iPad: A Beginner’s Guide.” In “Claiming Your Business ID,” Symanoskie will help participants claim their online “business IDs,” create a positive online image for their companies and create an online identity plan of action. She’ll demystify the pivot table in “Creating Pivot Tables in Excel” and show participants how to filter and analyze data, create charts and make formatting changes in Microsoft Excel. “Managing Your Online Identity” will showcase tips and tricks to create social media messages that will catch a reader’s attention, avoid online message pitfalls, and create an online identity plan of action. Symanoskie’s “Creating and Managing Online Surveys” seminar will introduce participants to a crucial customer feedback tool. She’ll identify resources for creating and managing online surveys and discuss tips for getting customers to give feedback. “iPad: A Beginner’s Guide” will introduce participants to Apple’s industry-leading tablet computer and showcase how to navigate through screens, download apps, change settings, work with pictures and more.
