NRCC to offer courses covering new IRS regulations for tax preparers
|In anticipation of the surge in demand for tax education as a result of upcoming changes in IRS Regulations, New River Community College is offering The Income Tax School’s online tax courses and seminars to help tax preparers become compliant with new IRS suitability standards.
The new IRS requirements have been taking effect throughout 2011, which include: mandatory preparer tax identification numbers (PTINs), competency testing, ethical standards and electronic filing. Preparers will also be required to complete 15 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) annually starting January 1, 2012, to continue to practice. Additionally, tax preparers will also be required to pass a competency exam.
“The new IRS Regulations of Tax Preparers that will be fully implemented by January 2012 may result in a shortfall of qualified tax preparers,” said Chuck McCabe, president and CEO of The Income Tax School. “This shortage may drive up tax preparer compensation and create new, more lucrative career and job opportunities for new entrants.”
