Trades licensing and renewal courses coming up at NRCC
|New River Community College will host several trade licensing and renewal courses in August at the campus in Dublin. Course offerings include a building contractor licensing course and license renewal courses for gas fitters, electricians, HVAC mechanics and plumbers.
The building contractor licensing course will be offered on Saturday, August 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is the first step for those who wish to enter the contracting profession. The course is recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, Board for Contractors and will cover topics such as: laws relating to the Board for Contractors, the state building code and underground utilities, standards of practice and employment law. Dr. Dan Trent will serve as instructor and the cost will be $198.
The gas fitting, electrical, HVAC mechanic, and plumbing courses will all be offered on Sunday, August 7. Gas fitting will take place from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m., electrical from 9:00 a.m. to noon, HVAC from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. and plumbing from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Each of these courses helps fulfill the continuing education hours required for the specific trade and will cover new definitions, code changes, general requirements, impacts on the job, general use and special equipment included in the respective codes.
The cost for the electrical, HVAC and plumbing classes is $125, which includes a course textbook. Gas fitting is $65 and also includes a textbook.
