Industry-focused PIVA training enrollment now open at NRCC

Enrollment is now open in automotive drivability, advanced welder and accounting/keyboarding programs through New River Community College’s PluggedInVA (PIVA) program. The participants’ goal will be to earn career studies certificates in either of the three industry-focused programs.

The purpose of the automotive drivability program is to train students to conduct a general evaluation of an automobile’s operating characteristics and qualities. This certificate will prepare students for an entry-level position in the automotive industry.

The advanced welder curriculum contains competencies of the American Welding Society’s (AWS) SENSE program which is an industrial standard for welder education and training. This program is intended for students to obtain entry-level welding skills for job placement.

The accounting/keyboarding program prepares individuals to become accounting entry assistants in both service and manufacturing industries. Individuals will receive training in computerized general ledger, spreadsheet, database and word processing software.

PluggedInVA is a career pathways program that provides motivated adult learners with industry-specific technical training to develop workplace skills for entry-level jobs in targeted industries. If needed, students also receive contextualized General Educational Development (GED®) instruction.

Essential to the PluggedInVA program is the integration of workplace readiness, professional soft skills, financial literacy, digital literacy and 21st century skills development.

More information about the training sessions, which begin August 1, is available by calling the New River Community College Office of Transitional Programs at 540-674-3682.
