NRCC to hold 47th annual commencement in May
|New River Community College’s 47th annual commencement will take place on Friday, May 13, in 117 Edwards Hall on the NRCC campus in Dublin. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Elizabeth Creamer, advisor for workforce development, Office of the Secretary of Commerce and Trade for Gov. Terence R. McAuliffe, will address the graduates.
In her role as advisor for workforce development, she acts as a liaison on workforce policy and programs to four Secretariats, eight state agencies, and more than 20 state- and federally- funded career and technical education and workforce development programs serving Virginians from middle school to retirement age.
Creamer’s previous experience includes: director of education and workforce development for the Office of Governor Bob McDonnell; assistant vice chancellor of Career Pathways and Workforce Development Programs for the Virginia Community College System; and workforce development and academic administrative positions at Thomas Nelson and Paul D. Camp Community Colleges.
Creamer is a past member of the National Career Pathways Network Board, the Southern Region Education Board’s Career and Technical Education Commission, and the Virginia Board of Workforce Development. She is a two-time recipient of the Virginia Community Colleges’ Expanding Workforce Opportunities Award. She holds a baccalaureate degree from Christopher Newport University and a master’s degree from Old Dominion University.
Approximately 450 degrees, diplomas and certificates will be conferred during the ceremony.
A live-feed of the commencement ceremony will be provided on NRCC-TV (channel 2, Pulaski County only) and over the internet via NRCC’s website at http://www.nr.edu .
Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the T.J. Anderson Student Lounge in the lower level of Martin Hall, with music provided by The Old Pros Big Band Orchestra.
NRCC’s associate degree nursing program will hold a separate pinning and graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 11.
