On April 30th 2009 the pavilion near Godbey Hall was transformed into a huge party. Assistant Professor and Phi Theta Kappa Advisor Brian Clark organized and hosted the annual Poker Walk and Tricycle Race previously intended for Faculty and staff, but opened this year to students as well.

The day started out with the poker walk which took participants around the large wooded area between parking lots A and F. As they made the ½ mile loop each person collected a random poker hand. The participant with the best hand at the end won a prize.

tricycle-race

After everyone took the ½ mile walk we all gathered around the traffic circle in front of Godbey Hall for the Tricycle race! Competitors from the faculty, the support staff, the baseball team, the Early Learning Center, and PTK all got on children’s tricycles and made one lap around the circle. Dr. Mark Rowh was there to start and end the race.

Food was provided by Mr. Clark’s nutrition class and we all enjoyed some after the race. While we were eating, door prizes were handed out and the Relay for Life “Pie-in-the-Face” fundraiser was promoted. In the end Dr. Adcock got the most tickets and was pied first, Michael McBride the spring Student Activities Intern was pied second and Mr. Kramer took the third.
I really don’t need to have my friend’s wall conversations broadcast to me. If I am nosy enough to care what other people are talking about, I will seek it out. Facebook should at the very least leave the layout alone for more than a couple months at a time.

Facebook is changing their ways! According to the Computer World website, they are reverting back to some of the previous settings. Check out the whole article at Computerworld.com

[Editors Note: Tammy Smith of who is the Office Supervisor Admissions & Records said: "Although the deadline for submitting the application for spring 2009 graduation has passed, the admissions office will continue to accept applications until the end of the semester.
Students are encouraged to complete an application and turn it in as soon as possible so that names are listed in the graduation program correctly and that diplomas can be ordered in a timely fashion."]
Is graduation in your near future? The application deadline has long since passed for this year’s ceremony, but do not despair yet! If you would like to attend this year, the ceremony will be held Friday, May 15, 2009 at 6:30 pm in Edwards Hall, room 117.

If you are finishing your curriculum next fall, spring or summer you are eligible for participation in the 2010 ceremony. Graduation applications for summer and fall are due April 13th and although the application deadline for spring has not yet been set, start thinking about that application in mid-October.

The first step in the process is to talk with your academic advisor. The responsibility to complete the process depends upon the student, but the advisor is there to help and sign off on the form.

For more information on graduation information sessions, graduation requirements, application procedures and other useful information visit http://www2.nr.edu/students/graduation.asp .
