Early Learning Center (ELC)

The Early Learning Center is a licensed and National Association for the Education of Young Children accredited laboratory school on the New River Community College campus. The center presently operates for three-, four-, and five-year olds from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.  A half-day program for four hours a day is also available.

The major purpose of the Early Learning Center is to provide a diversified, developmentally appropriate program for children. It is also a supportive service to students, faculty, and staff, as well as the community. Other services of the program are a practicum setting for student interns in child care, ongoing education and support groups for parents, and opportunities for parental involvement.

Selection of children is based on age and availability of space.  Children currently enrolled will be given priority in continuing enrollment.  Parents of children accepted in the program will be notified by mail and/or phone during the summer or as vacancy arises. If you are interested in the program, please contact the Early Learning Center director by emaill asimmerma@nr.edu or phone call 540-674-3600 ext. 4236.
