Music History is a required course for all music majors, no matter what the discipline. This is a one-year online course divided into two semesters. The first semester covers Western music from the Medieval Period through the Baroque Period. The second semester covers the Classical Period through to today's Modern music.

For non-music majors and music lovers, this course provides a more in-depth view into the history of Western music than the introductory course of Music Appreciation. Non-music majors can choose whichever history period they wish to study, or both semesters for that matter.

Come delve into the past, learn the musical traditions and let that knowledge carry you through a lifetime of enlightened musical appreciation.

Getting Started

Once you have acquired the course materials from the Bookstore and Distance Ed then you can proceed.

The first thing that you should do once you have your material from the Bookstore is to open the CD-ROM case. Do know that once it has been opened, it cannot be returned. If you have already had Music History I or II, you will not need to buy the CD-ROM from the Bookstore. You already have it!

Follow the instructions for setting up the CD-ROM found within the case of the OnMusic History CD-ROM and on the “Important Information and Download Center” screen that will appear. Make sure that you follow ALL instructions and set up everything that you need to before starting this course. If you fail to do one or more set-ups, your access to the course material will be impeded.

When setting up the course, be sure to use your email address of New River Community College to communicate. I will use no other, so make sure that you enter your New River Community College email address when you set-up the course.
