Sixteen players participated in the fall 2012 pool tournament in the lounge on Wednesday, October 3. Three players were awarded prizes after very close games: 1st place, Kevin Taylor; 2nd place, Aaron Lavus and 3rd place, Jay Reed.  The next pool tournament will be held in February. Six players enetered the fall 2012 chess tournament held in the lounge on Tuesday, October 2.  Each match was carefully played. In the end, the winners were: 1st place, Michael Davis; 2nd Place, Zach Neal, and 3rd place, C. Clayton Bowman. Thanks to everyone who participated. The next tournament for Chess will be held in February.

Ping Pong Tournament Participants

The fall semester 2012 ping pong tournament was held Monday, October 1, in the T.J. Anderson Student Lounge in Martin Hall. Eight students participated in this tournament. The competition was fierce and the three winners were: 1st place, Michael Davis; 2nd place: Nathan Miller; 3rd Place, Zach Neal. Thanks to all the players for their participation. The next ping pong tournament will be held in February.

Randolph Park, Dublin, Va. is our HOME FIELD where the softball team holds practices and plays home games. The park can be reached from the NRCC campus in Dublin two different ways: 1. From the NRCC Route 100 entrance, turn right and head north until you reach the stop light where McDonald’s is located. (If you pass the interstate you went too far.) Turn RIGHT onto Alexander Road and follow it past Walmart to Randloph Park which is on the RIGHT.  The softball fields are in the center of a circular road there. We typically park in the back lot and use Field Number 2. 2. From the NRCC Route 11 entrance, turn RIGHT and head south to the stoplight at Cougar Trail Road. Turn LEFT here and follow it past the high school (watch your speed limits), to the light at the Volvo Plant entrance. Turn LEFT onto Alexander Drive and follow it to Randolph park, which will be on the LEFT.  The softball fields are in the center of a circular road there. We typically park in the back lot and use Field Number 2. PRACTICES are Tuesdays and Thursdays From 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Players should wear athletic clothing siutable for the outside temperature, a glove, softball, a water bottle, a bat,  and  a batting helmet if you have one. Also bring suncreen, if needed. If there is BAD WEATHER, we will instead meet at the Fitness Center at the NRCC Campus, Edwards Hall, Room 104.  Players should wear athletic clothing and bring a water bottle to this alternate practice. Spring 2013 SCHEDULE: Saturday, Feb  16, 2013, AWAY at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., vs College of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City, N.C. We’ll plan to leave NRCC Friday, February 15, by 3 p.m. and arrive there 7 hours later. We’ll stop for dinner, and spend the night in a hotel near the college. We’ll get up in the morning, have breakfast together and then play the games, then head home (lunch on the road) to be back to hopefully have dinner with family/friends Saturday evening.   Saturday, Feb 23, 2013: Away at noon and 2:00 p.m. at Surry Community College, NC Friday, March 1st , 2013: Harford Community College (From Maryland) will travel to Dublin to play us HOME in a double header. Game times have not been determined as yet. We may host a three game round robin with Harford, Surry, and NRCC at Randolph Park. Sunday, April 14th , 2013 HOME at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. vs College of the Albemarle, N.C. @ Randolph Park, Dublin, Va. When the NJCAA Regional Tournament is held, we will make plans to travel there, watch the games, and learn from the best playing teams in our region. We hope to join NJCAA divisional play in Region X in Spring 2014. All NRCC students interested in softball may be granted access to the Blackboard Softball site where forms, information about games, etc. are also located. Nicole Epperly will coach the women’s basketball club team for 2102-2013. We have enjoyed great success in the past with her as our coach, and we look forward to an exciting  year ahead for the team! The Lady Knights will play other four- and two-year women’s basketball club teams in the region. Those interested in joining the team should contact Coach Epperly at nepperly@gmail.com or the student activities office. Go Lady Knights! The NRCC Athletic program for 2012-2013 consists of two NJCAA teams (Men’s Baseball and Women’s Softball) as well as two club teams (Men’s and Women’s Basketball). Intramural tournaments will also be held in late September in chess, ping pong, video games, and pool. Those tournaments are open to all students.

Dear NRCC,  NRCC Student Activities will offer a men’s basketball club team for the 2012-2013 year.
