This curriculum is designed to provide specialized administrative support technology education in the medical field. It is recommended for students interested in a professional career as a medical office assistant in a private medical practice, in a hospital setting, and in other health care organizations. In addition, the Administrative Support Technology curriculum offers basic skills training and advanced training complementary to the information systems demands of the electronic office. Included are skills in word processing, microcomputer usage, and human relations.

Admission Requirements
In addition to the admission requirements established for the college, entry into the Associate in Applied Science degree program in Administrative Support Technology requires English prerequisites as described in the college catalog. Additionally, students should have command of the fundamental processes of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
Program Requirements
The two-year program combines instruction in the many subject areas required for competence as a medical office assistant, medical transcriptionist, or a medical records clerk. Approximately one-half of the curriculum will include courses in Administrative Support Technology with the remaining courses in related subjects, general education, and elective credits. Students are advised to consult with their faculty advisor to plan their program and to select electives. Upon satisfactory completion of the four semester curriculum, students will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Administrative Support Technology with a specialization in Medical Administrative Support.
Students who plan to transfer to a four-year college after completing A.A.S. degree requirements should inform their academic advisors at the beginning of studies to determine the appropriate courses to meet.
