The Virginia Department of Education states, "ESL consists of instructional programs that provide basic educational services to adults who are not native speakers of English with the primary goal being English proficiency."
NRCC Adult Education offers ESL classes in the counties of Floyd and Pulaski. The ESL program is designed for speakers of other languages who want to increase their knowledge of the English language. Students work on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, with a focus on grammar. Students with all levels of English are welcome.
Program Purpose
To assist adults to become literate in English and obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency.
Program Goals
This program will provide learning opportunities for adults (and their children where applicable) to make improvements in their literacy skills in speaking the English language, English language acquisition, and other literacy skills.
